6 Safe Laundry Detergents To Use At Home

In honor of National Laundry Detergent Day (yes it’s a real thing), we have compiled a list of safe laundry detergents with their ingredients. As mommas, we are all trying to do the absolute best we can for our children. Over the years, this team has ditched the more harmful ingredients for the safer options. We aren’t perfect, but we are trying where we can.

Laundry detergent is one of the most important switches because we wear our clothes all day long (except bras, we threw those out the window last year– it was a revolution). The detergent we use stays on our clothes and transfers to our skin. This is why we use special “baby” detergent for babies. In reality, we should all be using that fragrance free gentle detergent.

One of the main ingredients to avoid is “fragrance”. Not only is it an endocrine disruptor sitting on our skin all day long, but companies can hide thousands of harmful ingredients under the word fragrance. Fragrances are considered “trade secrets” therefore do not need to be disclosed.

A couple other harmful ingredients to refrain from in your laundry detergents are: Sulfates, Phosphates, Formaldehyde and Chlorine Bleach. There are a bunch more you can find here. Like I said, we aren’t perfect, but reducing the toxic load is the goal!

Here’s some safe laundry detergents we highly recommend:

1.Seventh Generation Free & Clear Natural Liquid Laundry Detergent

2. Ecos Free & Clear

3. Molly’s Suds

4. Go Free & Clear

5. Dropps

6. biokleen Free & Clear

And just so we all stop using those little dryer sheets, we are linking our favorite wool dryer balls here. Add four drops of your favorite essential oil directly onto the wool ball and throw it in for fresh, aromatic, static-free clothes.
