10 quick mommy and child exercises at home

August 7, 2014 By Puja 2 Comments

For me, doing yoga alongside my little one has been my routine ever since she was born. Nowadays, my two-year old will invert into downward dog and clasp her hands together in mountain pose while I flow through my vinyasa. I think exercising and staying active with our kids is the key to staying in shape since we all know gym visits don’t always pan out in the everyday life of a busy momma. Plus, it gets in bonding time! Here, Christine O’Connor shares her top 10 quick exercise moves she does with her son that are both fun and totally active.

Mommy, “Let’s Exercise!”

From a young age, my husband and I have taught our son about the importance of exercise. Now that he’s 4, he will sometimes say, “Mommy, let’s exercise!” It’s fun to exercise with your kids and burn a few calories in the process. There are numerous exercises that you can do in your own backyard, the options are truly endless. My motto is to get creative and have fun with it!

  7. Gallop
  8. Hop
  9. Stretch limbs
  10. Downward-facing dog

It’s great for those days when you can’t get to the gym or fitness class. I have even gotten into the habit of squeezing in a few little exercises with my child during his activities. Trust me – it’s much more fun than just sitting on the sidelines. You’ll enjoy yourself more and feel better. Run with them at the beach, kick the soccer ball, play catch, climb the playground equipment and go down the slides.

It’s also good to establish a routine with your children. That way, you can stay fit while even while on vacation. And if it’s raining outside, you can try some of the exercises above indoors or find an indoor playground.

Lace up your sneakers and get moving momma! So, what are your favorite exercises to do with your children?

[…] Ahhhhhhh…The New Year!!! It’s a time to reflect, a time to renew. Personally, I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions. So this is not going to be the kind of blog post that urges its readers to establish a fitness goal for the New Year. But, this is a few words about exercise. […]
