bharat babies: book review and giveaway

When Bharat Babies spoke to us for a book review, we knew we would jive. We love their stuff and their company story!

In the Spring of 2013, Founder Sailaja Joshi was on a mission to complete her baby registry in preparation for the arrival of her first child. In line with her “library” themed baby shower, Sailaja went on the hunt to find books about Indian culture that she could share with her newborn daughter. Of the few books that spoke to her Indian heritage, Sailaja realized that none of these books took into account the developmental needs of her growing child. Recognizing this gap in children’s literature, the idea for Bharat Babies was born.

The mission of Bharat Babies is simple: design and produce developmentally appropriate books that tell the stories of India’s heritage for children from birth through elementary school.

As a South Asian mom, I feel like I am always looking for these types of books, too. So when I got a chance to read their book Hanuman and The Orange Sun to my little girl, I was impressed by the story whose words dance on each page. My daughter loved every word.

Plus, the illustrations were so vivid, popping with color and life.

The book talks about when Hanuman, the monkey god in Hinduism, was a baby, he saw the sun in the sky and thinking it was an orange, jumped up to take a bite. The rest of the book tells this entertaining tale that concludes with a lesson and Harini, the main character, learns the story of Hanuman for the very first time.

Bharat Babies also has other great books, such as:

Ganesh and The Little Mouse

Let’s Celebrate Diwali (Not printed yet-you can pre-order this one for October)
