the beauty of rose oil

About a year ago, my sister in law  Swati introduced me to the world and beauty of rose oil amongst other rose infused products.  I had never really been into roses really, from flower standpoint…I always prefer a few stems of lilies or gerber daisies than a dozen of the good old red roses.  From a fragrance perspective, always rather have jasmine and never really got down with the rose essence in my food.  Indian desserts especially are known to have this ingredient as a key, beloved player.  But it wasn’t really until that day when I was parched, my skin was noticeably dehydrated and I was visibly numb from the weekend with my two lovable but crazy guys…that day when I was in my sister in law’s kitchen and she knew what I needed.  She came down with an arsenal of products, all with a common theme.  They had rose in them. And I was hooked.

Andalou Rose Oil

Not only did I love the feeling of rose oil on my dry face, but I loved the glow that was left behind.  I also – shockingly – LOVED the added treat of aromatherapy. While I have always loved oils, many just don’t have that bonus of fragrance.  Rose oil – at least the one I love – has this beautiful, light rose scent that lingers but in a good way and totally refreshes not only your skin but also awakens your mind and recharges you.  I am not even exaggerating.  It really does.

So here are my favorite current rose products one of which we recently posted on Instagram – you need to follow us if you aren’t @thechaimommasblog.

Andalou Naturals 1000 Roses Moroccan Beauty Oil:

Why use it?

Rose essential oil also possesses properties that calm and soothe. Rosehip seed oil which comes from the small fruits that sit behind the rose flower contains high levels of vitamin C, which is critical in skin cell renewal and growth… plus rose oil itself is high in proteins, which help keep skin soft and moisturized. It is the only oil that also naturally contains retinol (vitamin A), which is known to treat and combat lines and wrinkles and other visible signs of aging.  If that’s not enough, studies also have shown that rose oil specifically can help treat depression in post-partum women.

I love it because it’s lightweight yet super moisturizing.  It serves a variety of purposes from tackling dry skin, flushing out any redness in your face, giving a radiance and glow to your skin, also can act as a primer before makeup application not to mention the great, not overbearing natural scent that instantly lifts your mood.  I promise!!

Tips:

Take a few drops and a drop or two of water and mix together slightly in the palm of your hand.  Gently rub over face and neck.  Any leftovers oil, just rub it into hands and even the ends of your hair.  Do this right before applying any type of foundation for a really radiant, healthy glow.  It’s also great as to apply right before bed as a deep treatment overnight…doesn’t clog pores and again, the aromatherapy is perfection to get you calm, relaxed and into a zen like state right before sleepy time.

Heritage Store Rose Water

“Experience the delicate floral scent of real roses any time of the year! Rosewater is truly versatile with numerous benefits from culinary gourmet flavoring to uplifting cosmetic mist. Use as a perfume, body splash or add to your hair rinse or bath water. You can also combine with therapeutic oils to make your own complexion formula.  Key ingredients are: Vor-mag Water (water that has been vortexed and magnetized to raise the energy to a higher vibration that we believe to be more beneficial). and Rosa Damascena (Hydroessential Rose) Flower Oil.”

Why use it?

Rose water has antibacterial properties, and helps balance skin when used a toner.  It’s great for instant hydration and also provides stress relief through aromatherapy.

Tips:

Use this pre and post makeup.  I use it right after my shower as an instant hydration and toning method even before applying my first layer of moisturization which is usually a serum.  Also can be used to set make up – gives a soft, dewy look.  Also keep a bottle at your desk or in your bag to use throughout the day.  Great for beach/pools days too when you’re out in the hot sun and need a quick cool down or want to get refreshed.
