Weekends are filled with birthday parties and activities. It’s nice to take a break and declare, “Let’s have a movie day AT HOME!”

Once you hear the popcorn kernels popping, you know you’ve made the right decision. Our family has been making home made popcorn and you will be amazed how creative you can get with it.

There’s something so wonderful about the smell and the sound of popcorn being made on the stove top. My husband, son and dogs instantly surround me. Time to sit back and enjoy the movies!

Traditional Popcorn

Healthy homemade popcorn on the stove with melted butter. Just like movie theater popcorn, but better.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of organic popcorn kernels
  • 1/3 cup of organic extra-virgin olive oil
  • 4 tbs. organic unsalted butter
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Grab a large pot with a cover or dutch oven
  2. Pour the olive oil in the bottom of the pot
  3. Tilt the pot, so that the oil spreads evenly and cook on med/high for a couple of minutes
  4. Add the popcorn to cover the bottom of the pan
  5. Spread the kernels with a spatula
  6. Put the lid on the pot and continually shake the pot gently so that the oil coats each kernel
  7. Continue to cook on med/high heat, while the kernels pop
  8. Remove pan from the heat when the popping slows to 20 seconds apart
  9. Add the popcorn to a bowl
  10. You have two choices for the butter. Either melt it in the warm pot or heat it in the microwave for about 45 seconds on Power Level 7
  11. Pour the melted butter over the popcorn
  12. Shake salt on top. Enjoy!

Cheesy Traditional Popcorn

Healthy homemade popcorn on the stove with melted butter and cheese on top. Perfect comfort food.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of organic popcorn kernels
  • 1/3 cup of organic extra-virgin olive oil
  • 4 tbs. organic unsalted butter
  • ½ cup organic shredded cheese (a cheddar and Monterrey jack blend is best)
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Follow steps 1-12 above
  2. Evenly spread shredded cheese on top and place in microwave for 45 seconds on PL7. Enjoy!

Coconut Popcorn

Healthy homemade and delicious popcorn cooked in coconut oil and topped with sea salt.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of organic popcorn kernels
  • 1/3 cup of coconut oil
  • Sea salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Grab a large pot with a cover or dutch oven
  2. Place the coconut oil in the bottom of the pot
  3. The oil may be solid when it comes out of the jar. Cook on med/high for a couple of minutes to melt the oil. Tilt the pan so that it spreads evenly.
  4. Add the popcorn to cover the bottom of the pan
  5. Put the lid on the pot and continually shake the pot gently so that the oil coats each kernel
  6. Continue to cook on med/high heat, while the kernels pop
  7. Remove pan from the heat when the popping slows to 20 seconds apart
  8. Add the popcorn to a bowl
  9. Sprinkle sea salt on top. Enjoy!
