Valentine’s Day is coming up and after the sugar high from the holidays (you know, all the candy canes, hot cocoa and sweet desserts), I don’t think we are ready for the sugar overload again!
I generally avoid giving out sugar anyway when it comes to my daughter’s classmates. For Halloween, we decided to give out pencils and stickers instead. Her teachers in particular, are also on board and request no candy be given out especially because of the nut allergies present in her classroom.
But instead of knick knacks like heart erasers for V-day, I love the idea of giving out something healthy. I saw a few of these ideas many moons ago on Pinterest and always wanted to do them myself!
Here are some great (cubby friendly) fruity ideas if your child wishes to spread some healthy love this Valentine’s Day to classmates and teachers. For the notes, you can even print out sticker labels to be sure they stay on each fruit.
Oranges, tangerines and clementines are not only sweet and juicy but are full of vitamin C. Why not give them out along with a note: “Orange you glad you are my Valentine?”
Pears are so colorful, fresh and sweet and make the perfect Valentine’s Day treat. Add a memo that reads: “We make the perfect pear, Valentine.”
Bananas are a perfect nutritious after school snack! Add a note saying: “Bananas over you, Valentine!”
An apple a day keeps the doctor away 🙂 And kids love this juicy, sweet snack. You can add the words: “Valentine, you are the apple of my eye!”
Give out a toothbrush along with a note that reads: “You know how to make me smile, Valentine!” Everyone can use a new toothbrush…that’s the dentist in me speaking, lol!
Plus, a great idea is to make all of fruits into a fruit basket for your child’s teachers. They’ll love it!
You really don’t need to resort to sweet and sugar loaded gifts during the season of sweethearts. These fruity alternatives to candy are surely momma-approved and the perfect way to spread some healthy love.
