best books to prepare siblings for a little one

With our second one on the way, so many parents told me to make sure I prepare my older one for a new sibling in the house and one way almost all the parents told me was to read books about a new baby arriving in the family. I have gone through my fair share of baby brother, big brother, new baby and other books to prepare Ayven and I see it really helping him understand what it means when I tell him your baby brother is coming soon. Now I know things are gonna be a whole new ball game when the baby is actually at our house, but the more I can prepare him, the easier the transition may be.   Also check out our post on preparing your little one for an arrival of a sibling.

Ayven and Mommy

The other day, he laid beside me and told his baby brother a whole story about his day and I was just amazed that age 3 he was able to comprehend that a human being was in my stomach.  One thing I learned was to not JUST focus on reading books about this new baby brother coming, but also include books on why he will always be special to mommy and daddy.  Too much baby talk can make the older child feel like they are not important anymore.  Another thing I learned was to focus on how the older sibling can help when the baby comes and work as a family.  Ayven is really excited about his new responsibilities!

Here are our favorite books that we have read to prepare our whole family for the exciting change!

Waiting for Baby by Rachel Fuller

What to Expect When the New Baby Comes Home by Heidi Murkoff

I’m a big brother by Joanna Cole

God Gave You Us by Lisa Bergren

What Baby Needs by William Sears
