FLOSS, FLOSS, FLOSS!
So my husband and his business partner got approached by an App client who happened to be behind the product innovation for GumChucks and gave them a sample for me to try as a dentist to see what I thought.
I was super impressed.
GumChucks are actually what I have been looking for not only for my patients, but for all my flossing life.
They look like little nun chucks, hence the name, that have disposable tips that are equipped with a 3/4 inch piece of dental floss. They make flossing fun, fast and effective. Rather than the floss picks which can be hard for kids to actually make the “C” shape that flossing requires, these mimic the traditional flossing method, but are much safer and eliminates the cumbersome thread wrapping around your fingers, something that even for adults, can be a challenge to not cut off circulation.
You simply load your chucks with the floss cartridge and off you go for smooth flossing.
It’s literally the first type of flossing system I have ever seen that is truly exactly how I would want my patients to floss.
Okay and the fun keeps going…with a video game App, a coloring book you can download at their site and each starter kit comes with a trading card of their cool characters like: Ninjarella, Plaqueman, Molarbear, Count Plaqula, Candy and Ninja Vitus. It turns flossing into this interactive GAME with characters they can follow…where was this when I was a kid?!?! (I got Ninjarella in my starter kit and she is bad-a$*).
And if all that is not enough, for every sale they make, they donate to the Smiles For Life Foundation, helping children around the world. (If you like their Facebook page in February, they will donate an extra $1 to each sale, as well). I just love knowing things like that about companies I buy from.
When I spoke to their team, they were so happy with how much I loved their product, they decided to offer the chai mommas community an exclusive 10% coupon. Just click on the image below and after you register during the check out process, type in “chaimommas” in the coupon/promotion box to claim it:
Flossing children make flossing adults, and since just by adding this into their oral health care routine, you can not only reduce their risk of cavities, but also reduce the risk of heart disease and diabetes in the future, (here’s an article on it). Plus, this kit is reasonably priced at $9.95 for a starter kit and then cheaper for refills, at $6.95, it’s totally worth taking the challenge on attacking that plaque… ninjarella style. 😉
What are your experiences with trying to get your kids to floss? Have you tried GumChucks? Would love to hear below!
