As we honor the women who have been affected by cancer this week of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the mommy we feature today is a surviving inspiration to us. Shruti Babu, known as @pajamamama512 on Instagram, recently shared, “1 out of 8 women have breast cancer. That is a ridiculously large number. Do you know what would have happened had I not found the lump myself and did something about it? It would have spread, it would have been a higher stage, and I wouldn’t be here writing this message. I was so lucky I found this myself and took immediate action. I am lucky I didn’t have to have radiation. I am lucky that early detection saved my life.”
We are inspired by her on a daily basis and interviewed her for some insight on her journey.
CM: What inspires you on the daily as a mommy-preneur or being a face on social media?
SB: My family, friends, and followers inspire me to never give up. They inspire me every single day in ways they will never know and always push me to be the best version of me which I love!
CM: How do you stay positive amidst it all?
SB: When I’m having a bad day or just want to give up or feel sorry for myself my husband, kids, family and friends always cheer me up. They are the best cheerleaders and their glasses are always 1/2 full and that positivity is contagious. I also try to surround myself with only positive people and think positive thoughts!
CM: How do you talk to your kids about what affects your health?
SB: Since the day I got diagnosed I have been very honest and upfront about everything. I realized if I didn’t act like it was a big deal they wouldn’t either. If they have any questions I answer them right away and even take them with me to certain appointments. When my hair was falling out my kids ( and Amrit) shaved my hair and had so much fun doing it. I tried to make all of this seem like no big deal so it doesn’t scare them.
CM: What / who has your biggest support been?
SB: Absolutely 100% Amrit, my husband. He has been there every step of the way. From the moment I felt the lump to the recovery after the last surgery he has never left my side. He has been able to handle the kids and be mommy and daddy for a year! He has figured out how to comb little girl hair, get my girls dressed in tutus, cooks and took care of everything while I couldn’t. There is no way I could have gotten through any of this without him.
CM: What is your favorite motivational quote?
SB: “You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.”
CM: Any must do’s for moms who are going through cancer?
SB: For moms going through cancer find a good support system and take it one day at a time.
