Packing for a trip once you have kids is always crazy regardless if it’s a weekend trip or a week long trip. The worst is having long days at work then trying to remember everything last minute, you probably end up forgetting half your stuff. I traveled almost every other month from San Diego to Washington, DC for work for the first year of Ayven’s life. Along with him, I carried my laptop, breast pump bag, diaper bag, and stroller, and yes I only have two arms :).
Each time I traveled, I forgot something and before having him I could run over to CVS and pick up whatever I needed…but after a 6 hour flight, 3 hour time difference and a 45 minute drive to the hotel, neither Ayven nor I were in any shape to be anywhere but in the hotel room.
I have learned a lot from all the traveling I had to do with my son and now can probably pack a bag in 20 minutes before I head out the door. What’s my secret? I have kept a packing list that I updated after each trip so I was even more prepared for the following trip. It’s not specific to any type of travel or destination nor is it age specific; it’s got everything you could possibly need. Every mom and child are different. Some pack everything in their house; some don’t care to pack anything but the bare necessities and some like to pack 10 of each item but there is nothing wrong with that. Moms have to do what works for them and their kids. I personally over pack and am that mom with the 50 pound diaper bag!
Check out my packing list…print it up and modify it so it works for you, you won’t find yourself running around a hot mess 20 minutes before you have to leave for the airport. Some of the categories include kids travel activities, electronics, toiletry bag, feeding, medicine and so much more!
What else did I leave off this list? With all of your input I would love to build an even more comprehensive list. Post a comment and I can update the list 🙂
