6 Ways To Motivate Yourself To Workout

Working out is not the easiest of things to do and I can tell you first hand that I wasn’t always this way. I went from married with a corporate life to stay at home mom to owning my own business all while living in a joint family. Before you start to think I’ve worked out my whole life and have “always been this way” – you are mistaken my friend. Ask my family and they will tell you I never ran past 5 mins let alone walked anywhere further then from the kitchen to the couch. .  Fast forward 15 years and I’ve ran over 2 dozen marathons. It took years to get here and I’m not even close to where I want to be. Here is how to motivate yourself to workout.

So how did I get here?!?

Here are 6 Ways to Motivate Yourself to Workout (and keep it going):

Find your WHY

Simple enough right? Whether you are preparing for an upcoming wedding/event (here’s to all post-covid parties!) or need to prove to yourself that you can do it or simply because you want to be in better health – find a reason that will get you up and excited! No reason is too big or small. You just need to have the drive to make it happen.

Set a GOAL

Register for that 5k you’ve always wanted to do, commit to walking 10K steps every day, or maybe be able to fit into a bikini by summer! This is a judgement -free zone. Whatever it is, it’s your goal and yours to attain. Write it down, look at it daily, and stay focused on how you will feel after the workout. And remember, start small and work your way up to motivate yourself to workout.

Schedule a ROUTINE workout

Pick the time that works best for you and make it a point to mark it on your calendar. I personally love seeing my calendar at the end of the month and seeing how many days I got in a workout! It pumps me up for the next month too. Plus, who doesn’t like checking off things! (where my OCD peeps at!?)

Do what works for YOU

This is not about showing others how fast you can run or how much you can lift. This is about what will get you moving. If you prefer company then schedule classes or find a friend to workout with you. Keep things interesting by adding a variety of new workouts that are fun and may expose you to things you never tried.

Pump up the JAM

Nothing gets me motivated like my favorite music! For me, I’m mixing between pop, hip hop, and, of course, Hindi songs! I keep all my playlists updated on @spotify or @amazonmusic. I change it up every few months so I don’t get bored and things don’t become monotonous.

Reach out for SUPPORT

Join the various support groups on social media, at the gyms, or get a personal trainer. I started using a trainer when I first started because I had no clue about how to use the gym equipment or form. It was the best decision I ever made. There is A LOT of help out there and you are not alone!
