book review: the book with no pictures
So we talk about how wordless picture books are great for kids, instilling imagination and all sorts of good stuff. But what about…a book with no pictures and only words for little ones?
“A book with no pictures?
What could be fun about that?”
B.J. Novak’s The Book with No Pictures is an honest title for a book that is only filled with words, in different fonts and colors and sizes. My 3.5 year old daughter received it as a Christmas gift recently and it has been a huge hit at bedtime.
We know how funny B.J. Novak can be as an actor and comedian, but seriously, this book may be the highlight of his career if he ever heard my daughter’s laughter when we read it.
Imagine your own child when you read the words:
“Everything the words say, the person reading the book has to say. No matter what.”
And then… “My head is made of blueberry pizza.”
With more made up words like BLUURF, some manipulation, (“the kid I am reading this to is THE BEST KID IN THE HISTORY OF THIS WORLD”) and of course silliness all around, it is pure fun and imagination.
If you are wondering if your young child would ever like a book with no pictures, this is the book to try out first:)
