festive roots rakhi kit for raksha bhandan

rhaki trunk
Next month a holiday called raksha bandhan comes up on August 18th. This Indian holiday is one that celebrates the relationship between brothers and sisters. Specifically, a sister will tie a rakhi (a friendship bracelet) on their brothers and male cousins, wishing them great success and happiness in their lives and in return they promise to always be there for her and protect her. The knot on the rakhi is symbolic of the strength between siblings, a bond between a brother and sister that strengthens with each tie, each year and each phase of life.
This past year I gave birth to my son so this holiday is extra special him and our daughter as their first ever raksha bhandan.
If you have been reading our articles, you know his much we love Festive Roots. So when they came out with their raksha bhandan trunk kit, I was super excited to try it.

This awesome rakhi trunk includes:

• Two rakhi themed books that explain how and why the festival is celebrated

• 2 rakhi themed art projects, which include all the supplies, as well as step-by-step instructions for:

  1. rakhi craft: For a beautiful rakhi that we will use on day of raksha bandhan.
  2. picture frame craft: A picture frame craft to display siblings

rakshabhandan

As you can see, we had fun and it was all super simple! I loved that everything was ready to go and making a rhaki is so much sweeter then buying one 🙂 I enjoyed how the story of Soni and Rishi in one of the books felt like our 4 year old daughter could really relate and grasp the concept of what a rhaki is and what the holiday celebrates.

Happy raksha bhandan!
