glow baby glow – easy diy scrub

Many pregnant women find themselves looking for alternatives to their regular beauty products once they actually take the time to read labels and see that dreadful list of nasty, shocking ingredients. I mean…are they really putting flame retardant in my body butter? WHY?!! I started becoming more aware of the products I was ingesting either my mouth or lathering onto my body way before I found out I was pregnant. But the desire to avoid all those chemicals, toxins and extra not good for you stuff was only amplified once the doctor confirmed everything.

In my search to find organic & pure products, I also realized that I could and should just make a lot of it at home. It’s really easy and really inexpensive too.

For me, one of the most annoying things about being pregnant was my itchy belly and this homemade scrub really helped to exfoliate and provided another layer of much needed moisture.  Plus, it’s as effective as anything out there in the market but sans all of those nasty chemicals and preservatives. This scrub is made with brown sugar which works incredibly well to help remove dead skin cells and olive oil which is an antioxidant and lusciously soothes the skin, leaving it incredibly soft and smooth (whether you’re pregnant or not!).

I find that it’s best to make a fresh batch whenever you’re ready to scrub.  This scrub doesn’t keep that well and this recipe should last you a good two scrubs at least, so use it within a week or less.

Organic Honey Olive Oil Scrub

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons organic honey
1/4 cup virgin olive oil
1/2 cup organic brown sugar
small glass jar with lid (i re-used a plastic jar that used to be home to my moisturizer)

Directions:

Pour olive oil into jar first then honey. Add in the sugar. Mix well.

Apply to clean skin using circular motions. Focus on problems areas in the shower – knees, elbows, hands, ankles and especially mommas to be – your blossoming belly!  Leave on for about a minute or so and then rinse off well with warm water.

So try this scrub out…I know you’ll enjoy it.  And share your favorite scrub recipes too!
